Wednesday Words
Trusting Others… with Our Well-Being
January 31, 2024
Pastor Cathy Daharsh

In a world that often emphasizes self-reliance and independence, trusting others with our well-being becomes a significant undertaking. Our theme this week, "Trusting Others with Our Well-Being," is illustrated in the Gospel where Jesus shows compassion and brings healing to Simon's sick mother-in-law. The focus verse from our Bible Study, Matthew 1:31, captures the essence of trust and well-being: "Jesus came and took her by the hand and lifted her up. Then the fever left her, and she began to serve them."

Trusting others is not just reliance on someone; it is a courage saying we cannot navigate life's challenges alone. The upcoming Small Group Study, scheduled for next Sunday, February 4, at 10 am in the library and Wednesday, February 7, at 10 am, provides an opportunity to delve deeper into creating a sense of community. Participants will share reflections on the sermon and personal experiences related to well-being.

In thinking about the challenges of trust, we reflect on moments when neighbors provided help during health crises, friends offered emotional support during times of grief, or a church community rallied around someone facing life's uncertainties. These narratives serve as living proof of the strength found in vulnerability and the interconnectedness of our well-being within a supportive community.

The theme of trusting others with our well-being is a call to embrace vulnerability and interconnectedness. The sermon, Bible Study, and Small Group Study emphasize that navigating life's challenges alone does not line up with God's intention for us. Instead, it is through shared experiences, communal support, and a willingness to be vulnerable that individuals find peace and strength in their journey towards well-being. Join us this week to be in community as we lean into our faith and each other, delving deeper to learn more about who we are, whose we are, and where our strength and support come from. Amen.
