What a day!
Our God’s work. Our hands. service day was about much more than what happened on September 13. The story of this day began weeks ago, with people across the Bethany community giving their time, talents, and treasures to make it all possible.
And when we say all of it, we mean all of it. We should celebrate that this entire event was 100% supported by the generosity of our congregation. Not one part of this day needed to dip into the church coffers. From the food we shared to the supplies we purchased to the thousands of meals we packaged, you made it happen.
Financial gifts helped make our Rise Against Hunger meal-packing event possible. Thrivent cards were applied for. People spent countless hours organizing projects, shopping for supplies, collecting donations, and making sure every detail was ready.
There were people in the kitchen baking and preparing casseroles so everyone would have plenty to eat. Others stitched handmade thank-you gifts. People gathered supplies and packaged Lutheran World Relief School Kits and Head Start Welcome Kits. Our quilters shared their beautiful work, and volunteers came together to tie quilts.
And then there was the big one: Rise Against Hunger. Together, our volunteers packaged 10,152 meals that will help fight food insecurity around the world.
When you step back and look at the whole picture, you realize that nearly every part of this day was touched by someone's generosity. From the food we ate, to the kits we assembled, to the quilts we tied, to the thousands of meals prepared for people facing hunger around the world—Bethany showed up.
This is what God’s Work. Our Hands. looks like.
It looks like someone filling out a Thrivent application. Someone else buying school supplies. A casserole appearing in the kitchen. A needle and thread creating a thank-you gift. Someone setting up tables. Someone organizing volunteers. Someone making a donation. Someone washing dishes. Someone showing up early. Someone staying late.
It looks like a congregation working together.
And once again, this congregation never ceases to amaze!
Thank you to everyone who gave something to make this day possible. Whether you gave $5, an hour, a casserole, a package of pencils, a quilt, a pair of willing hands, or simply showed up ready to help—you were part of something much bigger than yourself.
