As I prepare to step away from my role as Senior Pastor at Bethany Lutheran Church, I find myself reflecting on the scripture reading for February 2nd, my final Sunday with you. In Luke 6:1-16, Jesus heals on the Sabbath, reminding us that acts of compassion and care are at the heart of God’s call for us. This passage speaks deeply to me because I have experienced healing through you, this incredible congregation.

You have been a community of love, support, and hope for me and my family. In moments of personal grief, you surrounded my family with your care. You gave us space to mourn, reminded us of God’s promises, and walked alongside us in ways that brought healing. For that, I will always be grateful.

Over the past almost 10 years, I have seen how you live out what it means to be the hands and feet of Christ. You have a heart for justice and peace, and you live your calling to love your neighbors with grace. Together, we have worked to make Bethany a place that loves our neighbors, sets a place for all, and feed our souls.

As I prepare to begin this next chapter, I do so with deep gratitude for the ways you have shaped me as a pastor and a person. Your faithfulness, courage, and willingness to serve inspire me and give me hope for the future of Bethany.

My last Sunday with you will be February 2nd, and I look forward to worshiping together one more time, celebrating the ways God is at work in this community. Following worship, there will be a reception, and I hope to see as many of you as possible so I can thank you in person for all the ways you have blessed my life.

Bethany, you have reminded me that healing happens in community, in the ways we care for one another, and in the love of Christ that we share. I will carry that with me always.

With love and gratitude,
Pastor Cathy
