It is with mixed emotions that we share an important message from Pastor Cathy Daharsh. After nearly 10 years of faithful service to our church, Pastor Cathy has discerned a new path in her journey. Below is her letter to the congregation, sharing her thoughts and reflections. Please join us in expressing our deep gratitude for her leadership and ministry. A follow-up letter from Council President Cynara Pierzina will soon be shared to provide further details on this transition.

Dear Bethany Lutheran Church,
It is with a full heart and deep gratitude that I write to share my decision to step down as your Senior Pastor. My last Sunday at Bethany will be February 2, 2025.
After much prayer and discernment, Tom and I have decided to move to the Madison, Wisconsin area. This is a season for me to step back, breathe, and reflect on where God is calling me next. Over the past 9 ½ years, we have walked together through moments of great joy and challenges, including the heartbreaking loss of our son Mitchell. Through it all, we’ve seen God’s presence at work—strengthening us, inspiring us, and guiding us.
When I first came to Bethany, the words "Begin Again" became a personal theme for me as I transitioned from my previous call. It was a reminder that God is always creating something new in us and through us. As I prepare to leave, those same words speak to me once more. This is not an ending but the beginning of another chapter for me and for Bethany.
I know this news may come as a surprise or bring a range of emotions. Times like this can feel like a mix of sadness, uncertainty, and hope as we look to what’s next. I want to reassure you that Bethany is in good hands. Bethany’s staff and council care deeply about this congregation and are prepared to carry on the good work we’ve done together. I believe you are ready for whatever comes next and will continue building on all we’ve accomplished together.
Together, we have worked through challenges and celebrated milestones: we made it through the pandemic, improved our building, deepened our ministries, and walked beside one another in times of grief and celebration. I am grateful for the many ways you have shown Christ’s love to me, to each other, and to the world around us.
As I step away, I feel confident in the strong foundation we’ve built together. Bethany’s mission to serve, welcome, and grow in faith will carry you forward with strength and grace. I trust that God’s Spirit will lead you as you take the next steps with courage and hope.
I leave you with these words of blessing, which reflect my heartfelt prayers for you:
May God give you the courage to welcome new beginnings,
The grace to risk something big for something good, and
The hope to believe that love can transform the world.
Thank you for calling me to be part of this journey. It has been one of the great honors of my life to serve as your pastor.
With love and hope,
Pastor Cathy
