Bethany’s Advent season began with warmth, welcome, and meaningful community as congregation members gathered in Luther Hall for our “Cookies and Cocoa…An Advent Kickoff” event. After worship, everyone enjoyed a cozy cup of coffee or cocoa and a variety of cookies before settling in for a time of  ministry updates.

Pastor John opened the gathering by sharing the good work Bethany LC is doing to support two families seeking asylum, highlighting the impact this ministry has on shaping lives with compassion and hope. Bethany Gola and Cheryl Reimer followed with stories that underscored why this work matters so deeply. Pastor Katie then outlined the many upcoming events and services Bethany will host throughout December...so be sure to keep an eye on your mailbox for the full schedule of Advent and Christmas programming.

The morning also featured several hands-on activities for all ages. Advent calendars were distributed, the children created their “Flat Jesus,” and crafted festive wreaths. A papel picado station invited participants to make colorful decorations for Las Posadas, adding a joyful cultural touch to our preparations. In addition, congregation members could pick up instructions for assembling care packages to support our unhoused neighbors during the winter season.

It was a morning filled with fellowship, creativity, and purpose...an uplifting start to our journey through Advent together.
