Today was a day filled with love, gratitude, and a few tears as Pastor Cathy delivered her final sermon at Bethany Lutheran Church. Her message was one of faith, hope, and the unshakable bond of our church family—a fitting farewell for a pastor who has led us with such wisdom, grace, and humor.

The Bethany Choir uplifted our hearts with their beautiful voices, filling the sanctuary with music that reflected the joy and deep emotions of the day. Particularly moving was soloist Allie Hulen, who sang One Voice, accompanied by Averie O'Keeffe, Danny Pierzina, and the Bethany Choir. Their stirring performance resonated deeply with the congregation—there were few dry eyes in the room.

Following the service, the congregation gathered for a heartfelt reception to celebrate Pastor Cathy’s time with us. During the reception, emceed by Bethany Gola, the Call Committee shared their journey in finding Pastor Cathy, reflecting on the prayers, discernment, and faith that led them to bring her into our Bethany family. With the perfect alignment of timing for Pastor Cathy's calling, their story reminded us of how God works.

Suzanne Martinez, Coordinator of Congregation Outreach from Advocate Health Care, along with Elizabeth Rios, presented Pastor Cathy with a plaque recognizing her incredible work and dedication in the mental health field.

In another touching moment, the Church Council, represented by Cynara Pierzina, shared stories of Pastor Cathy’s remarkable ability to walk alongside someone, no matter where they are on their faith journey. As a gesture of love and gratitude, the Council presented Pastor Cathy with a beautiful Wisconsin-themed quilt.

Deacon Pam also shared a heartfelt letter from our siblings in Christ from Tanzania, Mary and Elizabeth, sending their love and blessings as Pastor Cathy begins her next journey.

Through a video message, Pastor Paul shared heartfelt words, reflecting on how Pastor Cathy’s leadership stemmed from a deep understanding of each staff member’s emotional needs, coupled with her remarkable intuition, empowering them to do their best work. No truer words were spoken—having personally experienced Pastor Cathy’s leadership, it’s clear she leads with both heart and mind, balancing empathy and understanding with wisdom and sound judgment.

Among the many special moments, Tom was given a true Cheese Head send-off, receiving beer from Packer-land—because nothing says, "I'm moving to Wisconsin!" quite like a dozen six-packs and an unspoken vow to embrace cheese curds and brats! We'll miss you Tom!

As we bid farewell to Pastor Cathy, we give thanks for her years of faithful service and the countless ways she has blessed our church. Like wildflowers planted by a gentle hand, the seeds of her impact have taken root, and her presence will continue to bloom in our congregation for years to come.

A heartfelt THANK YOU to all the amazing volunteers who made today come together! As a newcomer to Bethany, I’m truly humbled to witness such a strong community that not only comes together to get things done but somehow manages to clean up so well that it’s like nothing ever happened. You’re all rockstars! Kudos to every one of you!

May God bless Pastor Cathy and Tom on their next chapter, and may we continue to carry forward the love and teachings Pastor Cathy has shared with us.
