“We only know that we’re in darkness when we come into the light of God’s love. It is only in the light, in the fullness of the sun that we know there is a shadow.” – From Fear to Love by Henri J. M. Nouwen.
Our theme for Lent is Unafraid: From Fear to Love. We live in a time where there is so much fear, especially, fear of having enough.
Tom and I committed the largest amount we ever have to the Expand the Table initiative. And I confess, fear keeps creeping in. Can we do this? Are we crazy? Will we struggle with our own finances?
But then I breathe and remember God will provide. Sure, we need to tighten our belts a little further. We are going to need to eat out less, make sure unnecessary subscriptions are cancelled, and really think about what our wants are and what are our needs. From experience, I know that God will provide us with what need, not necessarily the things we want.
I think Lent is a perfect time to reflect on how we are living out our lives. Do I live my life reflecting Christ’s love?
Unafraid: From Fear to Love intersects with our Expand the Table initiatives as we work at letting go of our fears of change and the unknown and lean into God’s love.
Join us this Sunday, March 6 for Expand the Table Commitment Day at the 9 am and 10:30 am services, as we confidently trust God’s work in this place and commit to the ministries of this church.
We are looking for 100% participation in this generosity initiative, so we encourage you to prayerfully consider what your contribution will be to the Expand the Table ministries. This is an exciting time in the church, and I hope that you will engage and be a part of the wonderful ways this church cares for the community.
