At Bethany, volunteers are truly the heart of our church. Their gifts, time, and energy bring our community to life. Each week, it’s volunteers who make worship services run smoothly, who greet us with warmth, assist in the liturgy, and ensure the culture and meaning of our service continues without pause. They also bring life to our artistic expression, through music, visual art, and creative storytelling that reflect the depth and beauty of our faith. We also have volunteers working behind the scenes, ensuring that administrative processes are running smoothly, music is being archived, and ministries are managed with respect to tradition and church identity.
The impact of volunteers goes far beyond Sunday mornings. They work alongside staff to create meaningful moments of fellowship throughout the year, like the Lenten Fair, Ice Cream Social, and Halloween Carnival. Volunteers also lead the way in outreach efforts, from God’s Work, Our Hands and the youth mission trip to Vacation Bible School, Pride events, and other programs that extend our compassion beyond the church walls.
Volunteering at Bethany is also a powerful opportunity for growth. It’s a chance to not only share the gifts you already have but to stretch yourself and discover new ones. Reading scripture aloud or serving as an assisting-minister, for instance, can become a way to build confidence in public speaking. Volunteering in the AV realm may open the door to learning new technical skills. Many of these experiences can even be included on a resume, offering professional value alongside spiritual fulfillment.
If you’ve ever thought about volunteering but held back because you felt underqualified or lacked experience, please know, no one at Bethany expects perfection. In fact, we believe God often shows up most clearly in our imperfections. Bethany is a safe and loving place to try new things, grow, and yes, even make mistakes. Every effort, every gift, and every moment offered is an act of faith. Let’s continue to embrace one another as co-creators of this community, welcoming every volunteer, regardless of skill level, with open arms and grateful hearts. And when you see someone giving their best, offer encouragement. A simple “job well done” can go a long way in making Bethany a place of support and grace.
Together, we are building something sacred.
