Words aren’t enough anymore. Thoughts and prayers aren’t enough. If you want to pray, good! Pray the prayer of Revelation, “Come Lord Jesus” because you can bet Jesus would do something about it. Pray that something will happen this time. Pray that some laws get passed that will help prevent tragedies like Uvalde from happening. Pray that guns get taken out of the hands of dangerous people.
There’s no reason why we should have lost nineteen beautiful school children and two of their teachers this week. There’s no reason why ten peaceful shoppers at a grocery store had to lose their lives last week. There’s no reason for Columbine or Sandy Hook or Parkland or any of them. No reason except that it’s too easy for any person with any crazed motive to go and buy a weapon designed to kill as many people as possible in as short a time as possible.
Come Lord Jesus. Help us act.
We had to drop Isaac off for his last day of school today, and I have to admit that I felt some relief – not for school being over, but knowing a shooting wasn’t something I would have to worry about for another three months.
Next year though, he’ll have to go through his active shooter drills at school. He shouldn’t have to do that. I know of kids who have been traumatized by doing these drills at school, year after year. It’s not something he should have to go through as a second grader; it’s not something he should even have to think about.
Come Lord Jesus. Help us to act. Guide our actions. Let our policies reflect your heart of peace and love and hope. Amen.
