February’s selection for Bethany Bookers is Good Night, Irene by Luis Alberto Urrea (published May 2023).
This is a historical fiction novel set in World War ll. The main character is a New York woman, Irene Woodward, who volunteers for the American Red Cross to help the war effort. After training and then service in England, she is sent after D Day by the Red Cross to Europe behind the moving front lines as one of a group of Red Cross women who serve donuts and coffee to US soldiers out of military trucks.
There are other books titled Good Night, Irene, so make sure you get the one by Urrea, published in 2023.
Our discussion will be February 27 at 2 PM.
