The Prophet Jeremiah wasn’t ready.

He didn’t have a platform. He didn’t feel brave. He stood before God with shaky hands and a long list of reasons why he couldn’t possibly be the one. And still—God called him. Not because he was fearless, but because he was willing. Not because he had it all figured out, but because God had already seen what he could become.

This Sunday, we’re not just telling Jeremiah’s story—we’re stepping into it. We’re naming the truth that many of us feel right now: the needs are great. And we often feel like not enough. Too small. Too tired. Too complicated. But what if this is exactly when God calls us?

Because here’s the thing: justice doesn’t always roar in on clouds and thunder. Sometimes, it shows up in a trembling voice that says, “Here I am.” Sometimes it looks like showing up again, and again, and again, when the world tells you to quit. Our summer theme, Justice Has a Story, is about that kind of justice—the kind that lives in us. That breathes through real lives, real wounds, real joy. That gets its hands dirty. That walks with people. That dares to hope.

Jeremiah’s call was messy, sacred, and full of doubt—and it changed everything. Yours might too.

This Sunday, we’ll hear a word that is bold, tender, and fully alive. We’ll hold space for awe, because our community needs voices that rise with love and urgency. Our world needs healing that starts with courage and care.

So come. Come tired or brave or both. Come loud or quiet, skeptical or sure. Bring your heart, your humor, your questions, your edge. Bethany is a holy place—and your story belongs.

Let’s say yes—together.

Peace,

Pastor Katie
